Cobra Launches Ruby Wednesday

We’re very excited at Cobra Towers at the moment – this Wednesday marks the launch of Cobra Beer’s ‘Ruby Wednesday’ in Manchester.

So what is Ruby Wednesday you may ask?  Well, Cobra loves its fans as much as they love curry so we decided we wanted to give something back…. For the next three months you’ll be able to buy one main course dish, and get another main course dish free with a purchase of Cobra Beer in selected Indian restaurants across the great city of Manchester.

The offer starts this Wednesday (9th June) and runs all the way until Wednesday 1st September – that’s over 10 weeks of curry offers!  To take part all you need to do is text ‘curry’ to 64666 to receive your 2 for 1 curry code – simple!  To find the restaurants taking part then click here You can also find more details on either facebook.com/welovecurry or cobrabeer.com/rubywednesdays.

Brand manager Nathan Haigh comments: “Cobra has less fizz to go perfectly with curry so it’s no surprise we love curry nights out.  It doesn’t get any better than going out for great curry night in a good restaurant with a welcoming host and great friends so we want our fans to join us in Manchester’s fantastic curry houses every Wednesday.  The Ruby Wednesday promotion lets everyone have more curry nights out and it’s really easy to take part in. Just one text and a phonecall to book your table and you’re in!” – We think it’s hard to argue with that!

So there you have it.  Ruby Wednesday.  I know where you’ll find me on a Wednesday night – where will you be?

If you have any questions about the campaign then please leave a comment and we’ll answer them as soon as we can!

Chilli Plant Growing

Curries in India are invariably jam-packed with fresh vegetables and spices.  In fact India has one of the largest vegetarian populations in the world – approximately 40% are vegetarian compared to only around 6% in the UK.

With this in mind and now that the snow has gone and spring is slowly appearing I thought it was a good time to try a new experiment.  Although I don’t have a garden there’s no reason why I can’t attempt to grow my own chillies for all my curries.  After all, they don’t take up much space and will grow quite happily in a pot by the window.

I’m not afraid to admit I’m a complete novice when it comes to gardening – let alone growing chillies – so I thought I’d check out top chilli blog Chilli Up North for some hot tips.

Andy has broken down the growing process into three simple steps so hopefully even a gardening beginner, like me, should be able to grow something!

1. Growing Chillis Part 1: Getting Started

2. Growing Chillis Part 2: Germination

3. Growing Chillis Part 3: Potting on/Transplanting

I completed the first step yesterday with my Aji Rojo Chilli seeds and am working on step 2 over the rest of the week – fingers crossed it works out ok.  I’ll be giving you all regular updates when it all starts growing and, of course, how they taste!

Do you want to have a go at planting some chillies? I’ve got 50 packets of seeds to give away. The first 50 people to email me with your name and address will be sent a packet of seeds to get you started completely free!

Wow!  All 50 packs have gone already I’m afraid – thanks to those who entered – they’ll be with you soon!  Don’t forget to email your photos in as well and we’ll upload the best ones onto the Facebook page.

We’ve partnered with some great curry chefs and restauranteurs to provide a few recipe ideas and even have videos of some amateur cooks proving just how easy it is. But we can’t cover it all, and who knows? – one of you might have a secret recipe that could become the next Chicken Tikka Massala! So if you’ve got your own special set of ingredients, or even just a simple tip for perfecting a sauce, just add a comment to this blog post and share your love of curry with our other readers during National Curry Week.
